Cambridge Police Officer Cited In Hit-And-Run With Cyclist
CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- A Cambridge Police officer allegedly involved in a Sunday hit-and-run with a cyclist has been cited, the Cambridge Police Department said Wednesday.
Ryan Callinan, 28, of Wilmington, was cited with leaving the scene of a personal injury and operating to endanger. He has served as a patrol officer with the department since 2011.
The incident happened around 7:49 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Broadway and Portland Street in Cambridge. Callinan was off-duty and in his personal vehicle when he allegedly hit the bicyclist.
Cambridge Police said a witness was able to get the license plate number of the vehicle that hit the cyclist, which led them to Callinan Sunday night.
The victim, a woman in her 30s who suffered non-life threatening injuries to her head and back, has been released from a local hospital.
"The Cambridge Police Department takes all allegations of misconduct seriously," Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas said in a statement. "We will continue to work closely with our partners at the District Attorney's Office and State Police to ensure that a comprehensive, fair and balanced investigation is conducted into this matter."
Callinan will continue to be held on administrative leave from the department as Cambridge Police, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, and Mass. State Police investigate.
