Cambridge-Based Zipcar Expands To Providence, RI
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Car-sharing service Zipcar Inc. is expanding its operations into Rhode Island's capital city.
Mayor Angel Taveras (tuh-VEHR'-us) and Zipcar officials announced the move Thursday.
Taveras says Zipcar will help reduce exhaust emissions as well as the demand for parking in the city by cutting down on the need for private vehicles. The company will make cars available throughout the city, including near the campus of Brown University and Providence's Amtrak station.
Taveras also praised the opening of a Zipcar office in Providence for bringing jobs to the financially troubled city.
