Cam Neely On Felger & Mazz: No Worse Feeling Than Losing In Cup Finals
With just a little over 24 hours remaining before Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, Boston Bruins president Cam Neely joined Felger & Mazz.
Neely, who didn't win the Cup as a player but won as an executive in 2011, said he does not expect his players to be lacking any hunger or motivation, despite winning it all just two years ago.
"Well I can tell you this -- being in the Finals as a player twice and losing, it's the worst feeling you could have," Neely said. So getting to the Finals and winning as part of the team was an amazing feeling. I don't think you forget either one of those feelings, and obviously you don't want to get this far and come up short. Because it ends up being, even though it's a short summer, it's a long summer in the sense that you came up short.
"These guys have a pretty good understanding of what it means to get here and what it means to win, and I think they're going to feed off those experiences."
While Neely admitted there may have been at least a little extra motivation to beat Pittsburgh, due to the Jarome Iginla saga from the trade deadline, he knows his players won't need any added fuel when it comes to playing in the Final.
"It's that 35-pound piece of beautiful silver. That's plenty of motivation right now," he said.
While the Bruins and Blackhawks haven't met since October 2011 and therefore haven't developed any bad blood between them, Neely seemed to indicate that it won't take long.
"For us," he said, "it's just go out and play our game and maybe make some new friends.
