Cahill Jury Undecided After Fourth Day Of Deliberations
BOSTON (CBS/AP) - The jury in the corruption trial of former Massachusetts Treasurer Tim Cahill has completed its fourth day of deliberations without reaching a verdict.
The Suffolk Superior Court jury left the courthouse at about 4 p.m. Friday. Jurors are scheduled to resume deliberations Monday.
Jurors have been deliberating since Tuesday afternoon.
Cahill is on trial for allegedly violating a new state ethics law that aims to tighten how politicians run their campaigns.
Prosecutors say he used a $1.5 million taxpayer-funded lottery ad campaign to try and promote his failing 2010 independent gubernatorial campaign.
WBZ-TV Political Editor Jon Keller explained that there are no emails or text messages that would constitute a smoking gun. So jurors will need to decide intent.
