Bye Bye 2011...Hello 2012!

A weak area of low pressure moving through New England will make for periodic showers Saturday. Cold air at the ground early this morning has made for an icy start from SNH to Northern MA on secondary roads and sidewalks. Temps will be warming through the morning and eventually climb above freezing by late morning across SNH to wipe out the icing threat. Showers will remain scattered...so there will be times where it will not be raining. Temps will be climbing into the 40's in SNE behind a warm front. SE MA will be the warm spot with temps climbing into the mid 50's. Cold air will hold on stronger across SNH with temps in the upper 30's and Lwr 40's. Scattered Showers will be taper off this afternoon as a cold front pushes off the coast. The cloud deck will lift and begin to break to partly cloudy skies by midnight tonight. Temps will be in the 40's for evening festivities and then fall to the upper 30's around midnight as skies begin to clear.

2012 will dawn with sunshine. Sunday will be a brilliant day across Northern New England. Light SW winds will keep the weekend warming trend going with highs in the 40's to near 50. Clouds will be on the increase in SNE during the afternoon. Sunday night may see a few brief passing showers along with a cold front which will bring in our first push of cooler air. This front will wipe away the weekend warmth and return us to seasonal airmass for Monday with sunshine and clouds with highs in the upper 30's and lwr 40's.

An Arctic front will push through Monday night, so Tuesday true Arctic air will be unleashed upon the northeast. This is air which will be directed by the jetstream from Alaska right into New England. Blustery NW winds will drop temps into the 20's Tuesday with wind chills feeling in the single digits and teens. Wednesday morning will be clear and frigid at the busstop in the single digits with windchills below zero in spots. Highs on Wednesday will range from 20-25!  But alas...once again...the cold air will not lock in and a return to normal temps by the weekend back into the 30's. No big storms in the immediate future. A quiet stat to the New Year..but filled with plenty highs and lows...just like any other year. Happy New Year everybody! Make 2012 great!
