Business Headlines: Dunkin' Donuts Rejected; Myra Kraft Fund
BOSTON (CBS) – Residents of one Boston neighborhood have actually turned down a Dunkin' Donuts.
The Canton-based chain has withdrawn an application to build a store at 655-659 Tremont Street in the South End after a lot of neighborhood opposition.
Neighbors say the South End already has the highest concentration of restaurants in the city, which leads to noise, fumes, and trash.
One resident said one more would be the tipping point.
BAMBOO COMPLAINT SETTLED
The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination has settled a complaint against the Bamboo restaurant in Dedham and the Dedham police department.
Earlier this year, the restaurant refused to seat a group of 13 people, including some who depend on service dogs.
The restaurant had claimed other patrons might be allergic to the dogs.
Police officers were called in, but they did not enforce a law that requires restaurants to admit disabled patrons and their service animals.
The restaurant has issued an apology.
MYRA KRAFT FUND
Patriots owner Robert Kraft has established an $8 million-plus endowment in memory of his late wife Myra.
Kraft says the Myra H. Kraft Giving Back Fund will keep her memory alive.
The fund will be administered by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, where Josh Kraft is the CEO, and some of the money will support volunteerism, as well as fund scholarships to students who do community work.
Kraft calls it a tribute to his sweetheart.
