Buckner Coming Back To Baseball In Mass.
BROCKTON (CBS) -- Bill Buckner is coming back to baseball in Massachusetts. The Brockton Rox announced Bucker will be the club's field manager this year.
The Brockton Rox are part of the independent professional Can-Am League.
"I'm excited to spend the summer in back in Massachusetts with the Rox," Buckner said. "I've been looking forward to getting back into baseball, and it should be a good season."
Buckner, 61, played in the majors for 22 years for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, California Angels and Kansas City Royals.
He's probably most well-known for letting a ground ball through his legs while playing for the Red Sox during Game 6 of the 1986 World Series against the New York Mets.
In his time in the majors, Buckner racked up 2,715 hits, appeared in the 1974 and 1986 World Series, and was a 1981 All-Star.
After retiring he served as a hitting coach with the Chicago White Sox from 1996 to 1997.
The Rox are entering their tenth season and play at Campanelli Stadium. The Can-Am League plays a 94-game schedule from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
