Krug On Gresh & Zo: Not About Effort Anymore, 'It's About Results'
BOSTON (CBS) -- After winning eight of 10, the Boston Bruins have now dropped two of their last three games.
Boston split their back-to-back over the weekend, besting the New York Islanders 2-1 before falling to the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 on Sunday. The Bruins will look to get back to their winning ways Tuesday night when they host the Dallas Stars at the TD Garden.
The Bruins are a playoff team, entrenched as the Eastern Conference's second wild card, but know they can do a whole lot better. After weathering the storm early in the season with leaders David Krejci and Zdeno Chara battling injuries, the Bruins are hoping to go on a nice run over the final two months of the season.
"We definitely have to be way better than the last three games we played," defenseman Torey Krug told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak on Tuesday, joining the hosts in the Sports Hub's new studio inside the TD Garden. "It can be difficult; throughout different points of a season you have your highs and lows. It's natural to kind of dip a little bit, but we have to make sure we don't dip to far and get back to where we need to be."
Krug admits that players don't like to look at the standings, but that's hard with them on display in the locker room. The B's know where they are right now in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, and are determined to improve where they stand.
"You don't want to be the team that is in the race and has to play the tough games, watching the scoreboard every night. It's tough coming into the rink everyday and looking at the standings, being that team," he said.
"Now, it's about results. It's not about effort or how our game is clicking," said Krug. "It's about results."
While they try to keep the standings out of their minds, players are also trying to block out all the rumors that surround the upcoming March 2 NHL trade deadline.
"As pro athletes that's part of the job description. It's a tough time for the players, but it's about what we have in that locker room right now," said Krug. "It's not up to us who stays or who goes and it's not up to us who management brings in. It's up to us how we control how we're playing and our effort-level. We know what we have in the locker room and we know we can beat any team in the league right now with the club we have."
As for Tuesday night the B's may not have to worry about old friend Tyler Seguin, who is questionable after missing Dallas' morning skate with the flu. But Krug will be ready if he has to face off against his former teammate.
"What makes him a special player is his ability to make plays at such a high-speed. He can skate up and down the ice with the best of him, and his hands are in the same boat," Krug said of Seguin. "That makes him a tough player to stop."
