Bruins Stanley Cup Fulfills 20-Year Promise For Family Of Fans
BOSTON (CBS) - For the Martelli family, the Bruins winning their first Stanley Cup in nearly four decades fulfilled a 20-year promise.
Donald Martelli received a Bruins clock from his two sons, Donny and Michael, in 1990 as a Christmas present. He told them he would not put a battery in it until the Bruins won it all. For nearly 20 years, the clock sat motionless.
That is until last Wednesday night, when Boston beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 in Game 7, clinching the 2011 Stanley Cup championship.
"With about three minutes left in the game, my father pulled a battery out of his pocket and we were uncontrollably screaming and cheering," said Donny, his oldest son. "When the game ended, my father put that little spark of energy into the clock and instantly, the tick-tock washed away 20-plus years of missed opportunities, disappointment, angst and frustration."

"The B's winning was so real, I felt it," said his younger son Michael. "My father was being so superstitious about Game 7 because we watched Game 2 at his house and they lost. So we finally decided to watch the game at my brothers. It just felt real and right. The energy and the focus was all there, on the ice and between us. We were our own team that night. The goals were met, the Cup is home and the clock is ticking. My pops is the Conn Smythe winner of Life."

"The ticking of the clock fulfilled a promise that our dad made to us over two decades ago," said Donny. "At that moment, my brother, father and I embraced and enjoyed an emotional and unforgettable family moment that we'll cherish for the rest of our lives."
The clock, which only found its way out during the playoffs, now sits on the elder Martelli's bedroom wall.
