Bruins Rookie Brad Marchand Wins 7th Player Award
BOSTON (CBS) - Bruins rookie Brad Marchand has been named the winner of the 2010-2011 season's NESN Seventh Player Award.
The Seventh Player Award is an annual award presented to the Bruin who goes above and beyond the call of duty and exceeds the expectations.
Marchand was a virtual shoe-in for the award considering he had to fight for one of the team's final roster spots out of training camp.
The 22-year-old Marchand scored 21 goals and 19 assists in his first 72 games played with the B's.
As of Friday, April 1, Marchand ranked fifth among rookies in goals.
He was also tied for second in the league in shorthanded goals with five.
Marchand was originally drafted by the Bruins in the third round (71st overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Past Seventh Player Award recipients include Tuukka Rask (2010), David Krejci (2009) and Milan Lucic (2008).
