Bruins Receive Championship Rings

BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Bruins begin their defense of the Stanley Cup Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers. Before the game, the Stanley Cup banner will be raised to the rafters at the TD Garden.

On Tuesday night, the team received their championship rings at a celebration at the Boston Harbor Hotel.

"Everyone is excited and they should be," says forward Shawn Thornton. "We worked pretty hard to get these things."

This is Thornton's second championship ring, he won the Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007. "They'll be right next to each other," he says.

"It went above and beyond my expectations of what the ring was going to be like," says Milan Lucic. "It's something we've thought about all Summer long, and you dream about as a kid."

So will these guys be wearing the ring out on the town? "If we've got a hot date," answered Brad Marchand.

The ring features the iconic "B" logo, and the Stanley Cup. It has princess and round cut diamonds set against a background of 14kt white gold. There are also six larger diamonds that represent the six Stanley Cups the Bruins have won.

One side of the ring has the players' last name and sweater number, while the other has a diamond studded Stanley Cup.

The Jacobs family purchased and distributed a total of 505 rings.
