Bruins Plus/Minus: Krug Nets OT Winner
BOSTON (CBS) - Adam Jones touched base with Dave Goucher and Bob Beers of the Boston Bruins Radio Network after the Bruins captured a 4-3 overtime win over the Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Crosby provided some late game theatrics after tying the game 3-3 with 0.3 seconds left to play in the third period. A video review clearly showed the goal was scored before time ran out.
But the Bruins wouldn't let the disappointment fester, as rookie defenseman Torey Krug scored 34 seconds into the extra period to help snap a seven-game regular-season losing streak to the Penguins.
With the win, the Bruins improved to 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and sit alone atop the Eastern Conference with 34 points.
"From the Bruins standpoint this was not their best tonight. Pittsburgh certainly deserved the point, and you could argue may have deserved more than that," said play-by-play man Dave Goucher, who felt the Penguins played better tonight on balance.
"The focus the Bruins put on trying to accumulate these points here, especially at home, has worked. They now own the best home record in the Eastern conference at 10-3-2."
Adam Jones weighed in and highlighted the three best and three worst storylines following the game in a new segment called 'Plus/Minus'.
Pluses:
- Loui Eriksson, who Jones felt had his best game as a Bruin tonight. His backhanded, five-hole goal gave the B's a 1-0 lead in the first period.
- Carl Soderberg's two assists set up each of the Bruins two first period goals, and now has six points in his last five games.
- Torey Krug, who netted the overtime winner.
Minuses:
- Chris Kelly had a major defensive breakdown that led to the Penguins first goal of the game in the second period.
- Johnny Boychuk was a -2 on the night, and one of his giveaways led to another Pittsburgh goal by James Neal.
- The defense as a whole late in the game. You absolutely cannot allow goals in the final seconds like that.
