Bruins Plus/Minus: Iginla Carries Scoring Load In Wild Win
BOSTON (CBS) - The Bruins got their ninth win in a row and their first ever home victory over the Minnesota Wild Monday night at the TD Garden by the final score of 4-1.
The B's are now 12-1-2 in their last 15 games, including 9-1 in the month of March. The team travels to New Jersey Tuesday for a back-to-back game against the Devils in the first of a three-game road trip. With 14 games remaining in the regular season the Bruins have both a comfortable division and conference lead.
Adam Jones was on the air following the Wild game to review the main highlights and lowlights in a segment we call "Plus/Minus."
Plus
1. Jarome Iginla: The 36-year-old veteran pocketed a pair of goals in what was his 1300th career NHL game. Iginla now has five goals in his last three games for a team-leading 25 on the season. It marks the 13th season in a row Iginla has netted 25 goals.
2. Carl Soderberg: The Swede has played like a man on a mission lately as the centerman of arguably the NHL's best third line. Soderberg set up fellow countryman Loui Eriksson for the game's second goal after stealing the puck, skating behind the net and passing it to Eriksson right on the doorstep. Since moving to center on the third line, Soderberg has 10 assists in his last 19 games.
3. Reilly Smith: Smith broke a 15-game goalless drought and helped the Bruins increase their lead even more in the third period. Smith is now just one goal away from cracking the 20-goal threshold.
Minus
1. Matt Bartkowski: A shaky game all around defensively for the rookie.
2. The Bruins in the first ten minutes of the first period: The B's were outshot 7-1 in that span and came out of the gates flat.
3. Bruins in the faceoff circle: The game finished tied in that stat 28-28, but Patrice Bergeron was just 9 of 20 and David Krejci just 9 of 19. The Wild's goal by Jason Pominville late in the second period came as a direct result of losing a faceoff.
