Bruins Place Eriksson On IR; Recall Nick Johnson On Emergency Basis
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Bruins have placed forward Loui Eriksson on the injured reserve with a concussion, general manager Peter Chiarelli announced Tuesday.
Eriksson was injured in Saturday's win over the Penguins when Pittsburgh forward Brooks Orpik delivered a questionable hit on the B's winger in the opening minutes.
This is the second concussion Eriksson has suffered this season. He was sidelined for two weeks at the end of October and beginning of November after a blindside hit to the head by Buffalo's John Scott on October 23.
Chiarelli also announced that the Bruins have recalled forward Nick Johnson from Providence on an emergency basis. Johnson will join the team in Calgary and be available for Tuesday night's game against the Flames.
Johnson has skated in 23 games with Providence this season, scoring 11 goals and adding nine assists for 20 points -- third on the team. He has 104 games of NHL experience, skating in 17 games win the Phoenix Coyotes (2012-13), 77 games with the Minnestota Wild and 10 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins (2009-2011). In total, Johnson has 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points at the NHL level.
