Bruins Fans Superstitious Heading Into Game 7
BOSTON (CBS) - Notice all the unshaven faces around New England these days? When a sports season comes down to the last game...the fans' traditions and superstitions get more and more quirky.
In Quincy, Bruins jerseys have been mysteriously popping up on statues. No one dares ask who's putting them there. That might jinx something.
In Stoneham, Don Martelli is thinking about finally putting a battery in a novelty Bruins clock his sons gave him 21 years ago.
"Then they turned around and said, 'so where are you going to hang it Dad?' I said 'I'm not going to.' They said, "What?' I said, 'I'm not going to until the Bruins win the cup again."
He'll watch the game with them Wednesday, and have the battery ready.
WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports.
In Haverhill, another family is praying for divine intervention. 16-year-old Nicky Mangano tells us about his grandfather, a passionate Bruins fan who passed away two months ago.
"I took a ticket stub that I took to the Dallas game and I put it in his casket, so I was hoping he would give them good luck...I think he's helping them."
In Tewksbury, Roger Barlow painted a giant "B" logo in black, gold and white on his lawn. He doesn't pretend it will affect the outcome.
"They don't need me. They can do it all by themselves." But just in case, he plans to mow his lawn and touch up the logo tomorrow...before the puck drops in Vancouver.
