Bruins Chiarelli Talks Trade Deadline

BOSTON (CBS) - Fear not Bruins fans. The Black and Gold can still pull off a trade despite being up against the salary cap.

"We do have room. I'm not going to tell you exactly what we can add. We can add an average salary player without subtracting," Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli told Toucher and Rich Wednesday morning. "If we want to add more than that, there are ways to do it."

Chiarelli talked with T&R while on a scouting trip in Toronto. But there was nothing to report north of the border when it comes to trades.

"It's amateur scouting, so no juicy rumors."

One juicy rumor that has been floating around Boston is a possible trade for Islanders winger Matt Moulson. His 14 goals and 12 assists this season would fit in nicely with the Bruins. When asked about the possibility of adding Moulson, Chiarelli would not comment on the rumor, and is not sure how it came to fruition.

"I don't know where that rumor came from. I got about seven to 10 texts the other day. And no, I'm not going to comment on rumors."

The Bruins have won five of their last six, scoring 30 goals in those contests. Some feel the best time to make a trade is while the team is on a hot streak. Management held their pro meetings last week, where they discussed possible moves to improve the team that is currently sitting atop the Northeast Division.

"It's good to have those ideas when things are going well because you're forced to be more creative. The easiest thing to say is 'lets not do anything.' It was a good set of meetings and of course, we'll always look to improve this team."

The NHL trade deadline is February 28th.
