Bruins' Chiarelli On Toucher & Rich: 'Teams Don't Flip Switch' In Playoffs
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli was hoping that the team's string of success prior to Tuesday night was a sign of things to come.
While just 1-1-1 in their three tilts prior to Tuesday night's showdown with the Flyers, the B's were showing signs of waking up from their slump.
But with a 5-2 loss to Philadelphia that saw Boston fall into many of the same bad habits that have plagued them over the last month, Chiarelli was once again none-too-pleased with his hockey club come Wednesday morning.
"Going into last night I had some positive things from the physical, compete perspective in the previous three games. Last night, after the first period, was a different story," Chiarelli told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich. "I saw a lackadaisical play, and certainly not the type of energy or attitude you want going into the playoffs. We still have a lot of work to do."
With just three games to go, Chiarelli isn't sure if the Bruins right the ship in time. But that will not chance their goals for the remaining week of the regular season.
"We'd like to win the division," he said. "You want to get the team in a winning spirit and I thought we were going in that direction. I liked the successive string of games, but we took a step back last night."
For those thinking the Bruins will "flip the switch" when the postseason begins, Chiarelli was quick to shoot that notion down.
"Teams don't flip the switch, let's be clear on that," he said. "It just doesn't happen. We have to put last night aside, build on what we had been building on in the previous three games. The results weren't there, but we had good, strong successive periods. That made me feel better, and we have to go back to that."
