Bruins' Campbell Donates & Delivers Pies For Thanksgiving
BOSTON (CBS) – Despite a late night that included a hard-fought game in Buffalo, Boston Bruins Center Gregory Campbell was up early Thursday morning hand delivering some of the dozens of pies he donated to local shelters and charitable organizations for Thanksgiving.
The Bruins arrived home from Buffalo around 2 a.m., and Campbell, who probably didn't get much sleep, was out at 8 a.m. personally dropping off fresh pies to the Yawkey Family Inn, The Home for Little Wanderers and the Pine Street Inn.
In all, Campbell donated $2,000 worth of pies that he purchased from Mike's Pastry in Boston's North End.
Campbell says seeing all the volunteers is inspiring and he feels fortunate for the opportunity to give back as well.
"It's amazing what these people do - work hard to put a nice warm meal on people's plates. And for me, to drop these pies off, it's important for me to give back to people that aren't as fortunate as me. I hope they enjoy it," Campbell told WBZ-TV's Sera Congi.

The Bruins organization dropped off the remainder of the pies at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, Boston Rescue Mission, Haley House, Boston Family Shelter, Temporary Home for Women and Children, Rosie's Place, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Patrick Thompson House at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Women's Lunch Place, Horizons for Homeless Children, Salvation Army Cambridge, and Barbara McInnis House.
And for those wondering, WBZ-TV asked Campbell what his favorite pie is. "I actually like pumpkin pie, which is ironic because I didn't bring any pumpkin pies," he said.
Campbell says his mom has been making pumpkin pie for as long as he can remember.
