Bruins' Bergeron Named NHL's Second Star Of Week
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron has been named the NHL's "second star" for last week, but was beaten out by one of the team's biggest rivals for the top honor.
Montreal Canadiens left winger Max Pacioretty was named last week's "first star" after recording at least one point in each of Montreal's four games, netting four goals and seven assists over that span. Pacioretty scored a goal and had an assist in the Hab's 4-3 win over the Bruins at the Garden on Sunday night.
Bergeron also registered points in all four of his appearances, tying for the most assists (five) and points (seven) during the week. The Bruins alternate captain had two assists in a 4-1 win at the New York Islanders last Tuesday and scored the overtime winner in a 2-1 victory against the Ottawa Senators last Thursday night. Bergeron closed the week with one assist in a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lighting March 2 and three points (a goal and two assists) in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Canadiens.
Minnesota Wild goaltender Nicklas Backstrom was named the league's "third star" after going 3-0-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and .914 save percentage over three appearances.
