Bruins Beat Penguins 1-0, Advance To Stanley Cup Final
BOSTON (CBS) -- For the second time in three years, the Boston Bruins are heading to the Stanley Cup Final.
Adam McQuaid broke a scoreless tie 5:01 into the third period with a slap shot from the blue line that beat Tomas Vokoun to the glove side. It was McQuaid's second goal of the postseason,and it held up as the game-winner.
Brad Marchand assisted on the goal for his 13th point this postseason.
"It's an incredible feeling. I don't think it's ever one that you can really describe," Marchand said after the 1-0 victory. "I think it just gets better and better very time. It was unbelievable to win that first one, but being back in the Finals and having an opportunity to go after another one, it feels the exact same. So we're very excited."
Tuukka Rask stopped all 26 shots he faced for his second shutout of the postseason. He allowed two total goals in the four-game series.
The Bruins' win sends them to the Stanley Cup Final, where they will play the winner of the Blackhawks-Kings series. The Blackhawks currently lead that series 3-1.
With Friday's win, the Bruins improved to 48-31 in the playoffs under Claude Julien.
In 2011, the Bruins won the Stanley Cup for the first tie since 1972. They now stand four wins away from winning their second in three seasons.
"It's a great feeling," captain Zdeno Chara said. "To get another shot, we know there's still a long ways to go, but we just gave ourselves a chance."
Tickets for the Bruins first three home games go on sale Tuesday, June 11 at noon.
