Bruce Cassidy Named Providence Bruins Coach
BOSTON (AP) -- Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli on Saturday named Bruce Cassidy coach of the club's American Hockey League affiliate in Providence, R.I.
Cassidy, 46, is the 10th coach in Providence Bruins history after serving as the team's assistant the last three seasons.
He replaces Rob Murray.
A native of Ottawa, Cassidy was a 1983 first-round selection for Chicago, and played in the Blackhawks organization for five years.
In 2002-03, he was the coach of the Washington Capitals, compiling a record of 47-45-9-6.
Providence went 38-36-3-3 last season, finishing in fifth place in the Atlantic Division.
