Brown: If Akin Wins, 'He Doesn't Have My Support'
NATICK (CBS) – Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown said he won't stand behind Missouri Rep. Todd Akin even if Akin wins a Senate seat in the November election.
Brown was the first national Republican to call for Akin to drop out of the Missouri Senate race after Akin claimed that women's bodies can prevent pregnancies after "legitimate rape."
Akin has since apologized. But he's been abandoned by prominent Republicans, including Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan.
Akin has said repeatedly he's staying in the Senate race.
But what if he wins?
"He doesn't have my support. I can tell you that," Brown told reporters Wednesday at a campaign event in Natick.
"The process isn't over. There are other things that can happen from now until Election Day, but the bottom line is I'm very comfortable, I'm thankful that I was out there first, even before Professor (Elizabeth) Warren. So I think I'll let my comments speak for themselves."
Brown and Warren are running in a tight race in Massachusetts.
However, WBZ-TV political analyst Jon Keller said Warren stumbled by letting Brown take the lead on the Akin debate.
"I think Warren did miss an opportunity by not jumping out ahead of the cycle here. Brown is quick on his feet, wareen the calhaneg she go to be even quicker.
