Brookline Students' Petition For Dunkin' Donuts To Ditch Styrofoam Cups Gets 250K Signatures
BROOKLINE (CBS) – Brookline fourth and fifth grade students' call for Dunkin' Donuts to stop using Styrofoam is gaining a lot of attention.
The Park School students met with Dunkin' Donuts executives after submitting a Change.org petition, which has managed to get more than 250,000 signatures.
In their petition, the students cite health and environmental concerns.
"Dunkin' Donuts should stop using it because, first of all, it's bad for the environment. Secondly, it's bad for animals. And lastly, because it causes human health issues," the petition reads.
The students said Dunkin' executives told them the firm was working to switch to non-styrofoam cups within the next two years.
"We got the meaning and they listened to us," one of the students told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
The students' adviser, Ted Wells, was thrilled the company took the time to listen to his students.
"These kids go from the classroom to a worldwide community. For their voice to be heard by a major corporation with a quarter million supporters - it's so gratifying," Wells said.
