Brookline On Alert After Armed Attacks

BROOKLINE (CBS) - On a leafy street in Brookline Village, a couple walking from their parked car were attacked by two young men who came out of an alley. One of them was armed with a small handgun. Police say one grabbed the woman's purse while the other held down her boyfriend.

Police say this was not an isolated incident. There have been several similar attacks in the last two weeks.

Lt. Phillip Harrington of the Brookline Police Department says, "We're concerned about these robberies because in two of these robberies, firearms have actually been displayed and there's been struggles involved."

WBZ-TV's Peg Rusconi reports

The first robbery happened on July 8th when a 35-year old woman was walking along Brookline Avenue at 1:30 in the morning.

When she got to the Lynch Recreation Area, she was grabbed from behind. There was a struggle for her purse, but she held onto it and the two suspects ran away.

An hour after Thursday's robbery on Perry Street, police say a man sitting on a bench in Olmstead Park near Pond Avenue felt the barrel of a gun on his neck as two men demanded cash.

Brookline police want the community to be aware of what's been happening late at night.
