Brookline-Newton South Squares Off With Cambridge In Winter Classic
BROOKLINE (CBS) -- While most people probably think of the NHL Winter Classic that will be played Friday in Foxborough, the Brookline-Newton South High School girls' hockey team hosts one of their own each year.
Organizers told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karen Twomey the high school hockey team has played host to about four Winter Classics.
"A lot of sleepy eyes coming up to the rink early, but I'm sure once they're out on the ice they will be wide awake," said one parent.
The game was played Thursday morning at the top of Larz Anderson Park on Newton Street in Brookline.
Lucy Battite and Victoria Stoia, players for Brookline's Warrior-Lions team, agreed that the event is fun and a special thing to do every year.
