Brockton Student Changes The Conversation On Twitter
BROCKTON (CBS) -- Brockton High School students are tweeting about each other in a new and unusual way.
"Amanda is amazing and we have the best bond ever I love her," Brockton High School principal Sharon Wolder reads.
She's looking at an anonymous Twitter page with only one rule: the people who post tweets have to be positive. The Twitter page was set up by a junior who chooses to remain anonymous.
"I noticed that Twitter and Facebook both can be very cruel places most of the time so I just wanted to create a page where people could submit positive comments about people instead of bashing them," the student said.
The student says the very first two years of high school were very tough with a lot of cyber bullying. By creating the Twitter page @BrocktonComps students can post positive statements about each other.
"I see who writes the compliments but I never post who writes them. I copy and paste that compliment, post it on Twitter and quote it," the student said.
Principal Wolder loves the idea and the effect it's having on her students.
"I love that somebody took something that felt negative to them and turned it into something positive, not only for themselves, but for other kids," Wolder said.
The student says so far the Twitter page has more than 500 followers and more than 600 tweets.
"You're coming to school knowing that people have nice things to say and you that mean something to people," student Jasmine Lafont said.
The student plans to remain anonymous and keep the positive tweets posting.
