Javier Sosa suffered a skull fracture after his neighbor Juan Molina allegedly hit him in the head repeatedly with a four-foot metal bracket early Sunday morning.
At Molina's arraignment on Monday, the prosecutor said the attack happened as a result of an ongoing dispute over parking spaces.
"He held the metal bracket like a baseball bat and struck him several times inside the head," said the prosecutor.
Molina's attorney Jay McLaughlin is maintaining his client's innocence. He claimed that Sosa came home drunk early Sunday and was actually the one that went after Molina with a metal bracket.
McLaughlin says his client grabbed the bracket away from Sosa and there was a brief struggle.
"We believe because Mr. Sosa was under the influence of alcohol, that he actually fell to the ground. My client's main concern was trying to get away without being injured," said McLaughlin.
Molina, who is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, will be back in court on Thursday for a dangerousness hearing.
