Brockton Man In Critical Condition After Hit And Run Accident

BROCKTON (CBS) -- A car struck a man outside a bar on North Main Street early Friday morning leaving him seriously injured.

Police say a car hit a man crossing the street outside The Spot Bar And Lounge at about 1:20 a.m. on Friday. Surveillance video shows the impact throwing the man into the air, and the car that hit him fleeing the scene.

Police say the victim is a man around 25 years old with family living outside the country. He was taken to a Boston hospital with serious injuries, police say, and is now in critical condition.

People nearby ran to help the victim, but the people he was walking with were left stunned.

Bar owner Chenet Sam said he's been working with police to help find the driver.

"We were very forthright with that, I'm in constant communication with them," Sam said. "We hope that this guy can make it. It was a bad impact."

The area where the man was hit is busy, Sam said, and has been a troublesome spot in the past. In the future, Sam said his security team will act as crossing guards.

"This is a main thoroughfare and people don't really abide by the speed limit here," Sam said.

Police towed a vehicle they believe may be connected to the incident.
