Brockton 8-Year-Old Honored As 'Young Hero' After Saving Mother's Life
BROCKTON (CBS) -- Dominic Ginnetty is no ordinary 8-year old boy. After today, he's officially a state hero.
"He took action, and used what he learned in school," said State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey.
Last fall, just after he got home from school, Dominic's mother passed out on the couch. Dominic knew it wasn't just a nap.
What the little boy didn't know was that his pregnant mom was having a stroke. When he couldn't unlock her cell phone, Dominic ran next door and called 911. It may have saved his mother Ali Ginnetty's life, and her unborn child.
"He stayed focused and calm…I was told," said Ali. "God picked the right person to take control."
Dominic said he was nervous, but he learned in school to call 911 in case of emergencies.
"I knew something was wrong with my mom, so I ran to a neighbor's house and called 911," he said.
Now, the state and the city of Brockton have officially recognized Dominic as a "Young Hero of Massachusetts."
