Boston Police Find 2-Year-Old Girl Who Left Brighton Home While Family Slept
BOSTON (CBS) – Police found a 2-year-old girl who left her home late Saturday night while her family was sleeping.
Boston Police said the family went to sleep in their home on Western Ave. in Brighton around 10:30 p.m. When they woke up, the door was open and the girl was gone. She left the apartment building, which houses Harvard University students, wearing only a diaper and sleeveless shirt.
Officers were actively searching for the girl and at around 9 a.m., Boston Police located her.
"Around 9 o'clock this morning, the cops were -- you could hear them knocking along all the doors. So they knocked on ours and we jumped up and we saw they were cops, they showed us a picture and said 'have you seen this girl?' and we said, 'No, of course not,'" resident William Beguilla said. "We were really, really worried, this is a family community."
He said the building's locks are easy to open, even for a kid.
"I'm not surprised that the child was able to get out of the apartment. The door is heavy but it's really easy to forget to lock that door," another resident said.
An ambulance arrived and EMTs brought a stretcher to the building. But the girl's mother carried her out to the waiting ambulance, which brought the child to an area hospital as a precaution.
Harvard Police said the girl was reported missing at 6:46 a.m. and was found in the lobby unharmed two hours later. Police are investigating how the child was able to get out of her apartment.
