Former EMT Describes Aftermath Of Brighton Hit-And-Run
BOSTON (CBS) -- A former EMT was watching TV in her apartment when she heard a loud bang outside and jumped into action.
"It was really scary, there were two people in the road," said Judith Giller-Leinwohl. She described the noise to be so loud that she expected it was a car-on-car collision.
What Giller-Leinwohl discovered was the aftermath of a hit-and-run crash that left two women hurt in Brighton Sunday night.
"They were both really seriously hurt, they weren't in good shape," Giller-Leinwohl told WBZ-TV.
Witnesses described the victims as two Asian women in their 20's.
"There was some bloody towels on the ground, it definitely seemed like people got hurt." said onlooker Katie Harwood.
Giller-Leinwohl said, "they weren't speaking, but they were getting better the longer I was there. They were moving all four of their limbs."
Those women were taken to area trauma centers, but authorities said their injuries were not life-threatening.
Boston Police said an arrest was made in connection with the hit-and-run on Monday morning.
A 17-year-old boy from Stow was taken into custody and is being charged with two counts of leaving the scene of personal injury, leaving the scene of property damage, driving without a license, and several other motor vehicle offenses.
Police said the teen was driving a van stolen from Crimson Bikes, a Cambridge bike shop based in Harvard Square, and struck two women near the intersection of Washington and Lake Streets.
Crimson Bikes responded to WBZ-TV's request for a comment saying: "It does appear our van was at the scene of this unfortunate crime. It was stolen and we are participating with police at this time."
The company contacted officers to report the van stolen after they saw it on TV. Police said the company is cooperating.
The crash is still being investigated.
