Bridgewater Woman Seeks Donations For Pakistani Baby's Heart Surgery In Boston
BRIDGEWATER (CBS) - An unusual online friendship has led a Bridgewater woman to start a fundraising drive for a Pakistani baby who is in dire need of life-saving heart surgery.
Christine Muratore met Saleem Khattak playing poker on Facebook and they eventually became friends.
Muratore soon found out Khattak's 8-month old son Zebaan would die unless he had the complicated heart surgery.
"His heart is on the wrong side of the body, which is not the biggest problem. There are two holes in his heart. It's too delicate a surgery to do in Pakistan, but they are willing to try it here," she told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
Boston Children's Hospital has offered to perform the surgery at a discount, according to Muratore, but even with that, it would cost the family more than $200,000.
So Muratore has started a fundraising drive.
She has a very personal reason for wanting to help.
"My husband and I lost a little girl and even though its many years ago, people just never recover from that and I just want to support them in any way I can."
