Breer On Toucher & Rich: Is Peyton Still Peyton?
The Patriots improved to 2-2 with a 52-28 win over the Buffalo Bills this past Sunday. This Sunday the Pats are back at home to host Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.
Bert Breer of the NFL Network joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich to discuss the Jets losing Santonio Holmes for the season, the Houston Texans and Peyton Manning.
In the fourth quarter of the Jets' loss to the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Santonio Holmes suffered a Lisfranc injury to his left foot and the reports are he's out for the season. Now with Holmes out does this give Mark Sanchez an excuse moving forward if he continues to struggle? Would another team take a chance on him as a starter?
"It sure gives him a crutch. You know there's no question that you know that you could reasonably say now if he goes the rest of the season and bombs well he didn't have anything around him."
"If I'm the Jets right now and I'm serious it sound like a joke, but if I'm the Jets right now I might just go and do what Denver did last year. Put Tebow in there and run Urban Meyer's offense, try to ball control the other team's to death and lean on what's left of my defense."
The guys moved on to discuss the Houston Texans, the only undefeated team left in the AFC. Are they the class of the AFC?
"At this point I think so. You just look at them they've got - just look at their roster and there aren't holes."
The guys then moved on to discuss Peyton Manning and his play so far this season. In the first four weeks of the season we have seen two different sides of Peyton. This past Sunday Manning threw for over 300 yards completing 30 out of 39 with no interceptions in a 37-6 win over the Raiders. In Week 3 Denver fell to Houston 31-25 and Peyton only completed 26 of 50. Which is the real Peyton?
"Well he doesn't have the arm he used to and that's not just me talking, that's talking to the scouts and executives who all say if you watch it the ball doesn't come out of his hand the same way."
