Breaking Down The Humidity With Storms & Downpours
SW winds continue to pump oppressive humidity into New England with dewpoints again ranging from 70-76 degrees. Hazy sun and clouds are warming temps up again into the 80's, with the potential for a few Lwr 90's this afternoon. I do not expect the kind of heat we had yesterday due to a few more clouds. Plus a welcome breeze today will pick up this afternoon with gusts over 20 mph to help to stir the stagnant air and make the day more tolerable.
The air is is loaded with moisture with weak upper level winds under and upper level ridge. A pre frontal trough is approaching from the west where it will once again find Northern & Western New England most favorable for slow moving storms to set up this afternoon. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 2 PM until Monday morning for these slow moving downpours which may occur as these storms enter the region. While the North and West remain most favorable, we can rule out a few pop up cells forming this afternoon and spreading eastward and heading toward the coast late in the day as the prefrontal trough approaches.
Any storms which develop on this trough will have the potential to produce very heavy rain, and gusty winds just like yesterday, as several spots picked up a quick couple inches of rain and flooded roads. The cold front still remains parked over Lake Ontario and the Ohio River Valley. More scattered storms and heavy rain are forming along this front. It is this energy which will swing in with this front later tonight after midnight through early Monday morning. There are concerns that this cold front may get hung up in SE MA and stick around a bit longer with clouds and a wave of low pressure riding the front which could keep showers going towards the Cape through midday.
The cold front will push off the coast Monday afternoon with increasing sunshine from NW to SE by afternoon. Dry high pressure will build in for the midweek with pleasant air and seasonal warmth through the midweek with highs around 82 to 86 degrees. It will start to become more humid by Wednesday with the moisture building by the weekend with an increased risk for showers by Friday or Saturday. I would rather not look at next weekend because it looks wet and not very pleasant. I am hoping it changes. For now...why even think about it...It will change. It usually does.
