Students Threatened With Gun Inside Brandeis University Dorm

WALTHAM (CBS) – Two people are suspected of an armed robbery in a Brandeis University dorm, forcing the campus into lockdown late Monday night.

The university sent out an alert just before midnight ordering students to shelter and lock their windows and doors. Students were also told to silence their phones, remain quiet, and not let anyone in their rooms until approved by authorities.

Brandeis and Waltham Police were searching for what was initially described only as an "armed subject."

"There were people in that building I got messages from. They were under their beds studying just to be safe," junior Bryan McNamara said.

A sophomore who identified herself only as Elyse said she was in the building next door to where the armed robbery happened.

"We shut the window and locked it, turned off the lights. We stayed in the corner of the room huddled up with each other because we were really freaked out," she said.

About two hours later, the lockdown was lifted and students were told the campus was safe.

Police said it was an armed robbery that took place at East Quad, but no one was injured.

"Upon responding to the scene, police learned that two non-community members had entered a student room, one threatened three students in the room with a gun, and then both fled campus. No one was hurt, and based on the initial investigation it appears this was not a random incident," the college said in a statement.

The suspects remain on the run, but the school said there is no indication of "any continuing risk to our community."
