Braintree Police Shoot, Kill Man Armed With Knife
BRAINTREE (CBS) – Braintree police shot and killed an armed man in a confrontation early Thursday morning.
Officers were called to Liberty Street at 1:20 a.m. for a "domestic situation," according to Norfolk Assistant District Attorney Greg Connor.
They were told a man involved in the dispute, later identified as 44-year-old Robert Dussourd, had left, but he was armed with a knife.
A short time later, police found Dussourd a few houses away hiding underneath a car.
"A series of non-lethal measures were used to de-escalate the situation. Eventually this person revealed himself from underneath the car and was armed with a knife," Connor told reporters. "A series of bean bag weapons were used to try and again de-escalate the situation. None of which were successful."
"This individual continued to brandish the knife in aggressive form and, regretfully, Braintree Police officers, in order to preserve their own safety, needed to discharge their weapons," Connor said.
A witness who did not want to be identified told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 he heard the entire confrontation.
"They started yelling, 'Show me your hands, show me your hands,' and I heard someone yelling, 'I have a knife just shoot me,' a couple of times," he said before the shots were fired.
Dussourd was rushed to South Shore Hospital, where he died.
No officers were hurt. Connor said two officers responded to the initial call, but it was too early to tell which officer or officers fired at Dussourd, who lived on Liberty Street.
No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
