Brady McCue, Man Charged With Brutal Sex Assault In Middlesex Fells, Ordered To Undergo Mental Health Evaluation
SOMERVILLE (CBS) - Brady McCue, the man charged with sexually assaulting a woman last week in a brutal attack in the Middlesex Fells Reservation, has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation for competency and criminal responsibility.
McCue, 28, pleaded not guilty to several charges, including armed assault to murder, kidnapping and four counts of aggravated rape, at his arraignment Monday in Somerville District Court.
The prosecutor said a 48-year-old woman was walking near Leslie Road Trail Head in the Fells in Medford round 8 a.m. Friday when McCue hit her with a rock several times, sexually assaulted her and then ran away.
"She was seated just off to the side of the road on a dirt trail. Officers observed her to be badly beaten and bleeding," the prosecutor told the court Monday.
The woman was taken to a hospital in Boston where she remains in stable condition.
Investigators said they found evidence at the scene, including McCue's sweatshirt and a coffee cup with a sticker, that helped identify him. He was arrested Friday at home, hours after the attack.
"He estimated to investigators he hit her or struck her about the face area 14 times with either the rock or his hands," the prosecutor said.
Investigators said McCue admitted to being schizophrenic. A dangerousness hearing will be held at a later date once McCue's evaluation is complete.
