Brady: Knee Injury 'Just Bumps And Bruises Like Everybody Else'

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- Any Tom Brady injury would be of great concern to those in New England. Whenever the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback sits out a practice session, the worries only grow greater. But ask Brady about his latest injury scare involving his knee, and he'll tell you it's just another speed bump in a typically rough NFL season.

"I don't want to get into it much. It's just bumps and bruises like everybody else," said Brady during his Friday press conference. "It's a tough time of year. A lot of guys have been going for a long time – a lot longer than me. Everyone is dealing with something. It's part of football."

Brady returned to the practice field on Friday and is expected to play on Sunday against the New York Jets, but not that any of that would be a surprise. Brady is one of the toughest players in the league and it would have taken a major, debilitating injury like a torn ACL to really make him miss a game. Still, that Brady skipped practice on Wednesday and Thursday shows that his knee likely goes a little beyond simple "bumps and bruises."

Brady doesn't miss entire practices very often. Despite being able to preserve his body by sitting out the first four games of the season, Brady's four games off don't make much of a difference now. Post-Thanksgiving football is virtually impossible to play at 100 percent health, but Brady nonetheless feels extra-energized.

"I feel like I've got a lot of football kind of stored up," said Brady. "Not that it's not great, but I always prefer practicing. If you can't practice, then you can't practice, and like I said, do the best you can do until you get out there, and then when you get out there, do the best you can do. I wish I could give you guys more but there's not much to elaborate on."

However cryptic Brady and Belichick may be about the injury, it appears far from a threat to Brady making it on the field. But the past two weeks of Brady nursing his knee injury has been a startling reminder of how every NFL player could always be one snap away from the season being over.
