Brady gets extension following accident
It was a pretty memorable day for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, capped by a new contract extension.
Two people with knowledge of the deal says Brady has accepted a four-year package that's worth $18 million a season and runs through 2014. Those contract figures would make Brady the NFL's highest paid player.
Brady also was involved in a two-car accident near his home earlier in the day. He was unhurt and was able to practice later on Thursday.
Police say 21-year-old Ludgero Rodrigues was cited Thursday for failing to stop at a red light.
A police report says Rodrigues was driving a Mercury Villager minivan and struck Brady's Audi sedan at an intersection in Boston's Back Bay area near Brady's home.
The report says Brady told officers he had a green light and attempted to swerve out of the way when the van crossed his path. His car struck the passenger side of the van.
