Bradley Jay: Boston's Streets Are Packed With 'Nattering Nabobs Of Negativism' Concerning Paul Ryan
My name is Bradley Jay and I host the Jay Talking radio show which airs every Sunday evening at 10pm on WBZ NewsRadio 1030. Consider this:
As I talked to people on the street while shooting this week's "man on the street" Jay Talking video about Paul Ryan, I heard far more negative comments concerning Rep. Ryan than I expected. I heard phrases such as, "he is like a better-spoken Sarah Palin," and "he would make a good middle manager at Walmart," as well as "he is cute but scary." I was taken aback by the "nattering nabobs of negativism" I encountered and I fear that Mr. Ryan's Ayn Rand fed philosophies may taint Mitt Romney.
One criticism of Gov. Romney has been that there is no "there" there. He has suffered from a perception that he lacks a finite essence that is firm enough to really embrace or reject. (The perception is inaccurate, but that matters little.)
Now, with the choice of Paul Ryan as running-mate, the abstraction that has been Mitt Romney now has a solid identity. And for better or for worse, that identity has been supplied by Rep. Ryan himself. In the words of Star Trek aliens known collectively as The Borg, Mr. Romney, "resistance is futile and you will be assimilated."
And so he has. Paul Ryan's policies and all that goes with them have now been hung on Gov. Romney, and despite protestations, Romney will continue to be painted by the Paul Ryan brush.
Now that you know Paul Ryan a little better, do you like him?
