Bradley Jay: 'At Christmas, Cash Is Not King.'

My name is Bradley Jay and I host the Jay Talking radio show which airs every Sunday evening at 10pm on WBZ NewsRadio 1030. Consider this:

"Times are tough," they say. If that is true, why is it so hard to buy a Christmas gift that a recipient will really like? The fact is, many Americans, despite cries of "hard times" actually have most of the stuff they need. If the majority were really hurting, then socks and underwear, or mittens and a hat, would satisfy on Christmas morn.

They don't.

Truth is, most of us are so flush with the basics that it's a challenge to think of something a fellow American really needs. This is why cash is too often the gift of choice.

While, on one level, folks like to get cash for Christmas, a gift of cash diminishes the spirit of Christmas. It says, "Hey, I really don't know you, or care about you enough to find out what sort of gift would make your heart sing for a few seconds."

Cash says, "Ahhh, I guess it's Christmas and I guess I am supposed to get you something, but, I don't have the time or the inclination to find out what makes you tick." It says, "I can't be bothered to understand you."

If you're going to do the gift thing, then do it right. Find a gift that says, "I get who you are and I want you to know that."

Oh, and bargain shoppers, forget cash. A hundred dollars always costs a hundred dollars.

That's my opinion, and I'm stickin' to it, but many disagree. Click play to watch the Jay Talking video to see how you neighbors feel about giving and receiving cash for Christmas.
