Brad Stevens: Celtics Have 'Heck Of A Stretch' Of Upcoming Games
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens made his second of many weekly appearances on the Gresh & Zo show.
The Celtics take the floor tonight for the first time following the end of their four game win streak, an 89-83 loss Wednesday night to the Charlotte Bobcats.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Bruins-Senators On 98.5 The Sports Hub, Celtics-Blazers On WZLX
This matchup against the Portland Trailblazers signals the start of a tough five-game stretch for the C's, which Stevens addressed Friday afternoon with Gresh & Zo.
"Minnesota might be playing as well as an anyone in the league let alone Portland tonight at 6-2," said Stevens. "You've got Houston and San Antonio, who are widely considered two of the best teams in the West. And then Indiana who's the only undefeated team in the league right after that. Yeah, this is a heck of a stretch."
"If you get too caught up in the stretch itself then it becomes daunting. You just have to look at it and take it minute by minute, day by day. We just have to play as well as we can tonight."
Gresh & Zo: Did The Celtics Get Too Cocky After Four Game Win Streak?
Gresh brought up to Stevens the postgame comments of Gerald Wallace, who called out his teammates for taking the Bobcats too lightly and getting cocky during their winning streak.
Wallace hasn't been afraid to speak his mind in his first year with the team. Earlier in the season after the conclusion of the team's second game against Milwaukee, Wallace blasted his teammates for being selfish.
So what do you make of the most recent remarks of your veteran forward, Coach Stevens? Is Wallace displaying leadership, or discontent?
"Success challenges you as greatly as any adversity," said Stevens. "A lot of people can get good, but sustaining greatness is very hard. I don't know if that [cockiness] is why we didn't play as well on Wednesday, but I know this: we didn't play as well. We weren't the same team that won four straight."
Stevens also dished on what songs are on his iPod. To find out his playlist and hear the interview in its entirety, listen below:
