BPD responds to jump in violent crime
There's been a frightening jump in violent crime in Boston.
Police are beefing up patrols on word that murders are up 24 percent over this time a year ago.
Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis tells the Boston Globe a similar pattern has been common in ohter big American cities.
There have been 50 homicides in Boston compared to 38 in 2009.
Increased foot patrols are being credited for keeping the murder rat at it lowest in six years.
