BPD Officer On Administrative Leave Arrested For Allegedly Taking Cruiser

BOSTON (CBS) – A Boston police officer on administrative leave was arrested Friday on charges of swiping a Boston police cruiser, Boston police confirmed.

Officer Patrick Donovan of Dorchester was placed on administrative leave in September after a BPD internal affairs investigation related to larceny charges.

Police said the incident took place on Friday between 5 p.m. and midnight. Donovan allegedly took the cruiser without authority from District C-11 in Dorchester where he was last assigned as a patrol officer.

According to police, Donovan took the cruiser to Revere where he was involved in a domestic altercation with his domestic partner that Revere police are investigating.

The cruiser was recovered that night in Dorchester where Donovan was arrested by the Youth Violence Strike Force.

There were no further details on the circumstances of the arrest.

Donovan is charged use of a motor vehicle without authority.

Police said the department has been taking steps to terminate Donovan's employment since the investigation of larceny charges in 2013.
