Chris Huynh was hit on Whitten Street in a Vietnamese neighborhood of Dorchester. He was crossing the street to go to his grandmother's car.

The boy was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. As of 6 p.m., there was no word on his condition.

Neighbors said a lot of children play on the narrow one-way street, and cars drive way too fast through that area.

"We have a lot of kids that live on this street, and I have a 6-year-old of my own and kids are very active, they run all the time. They're either riding bikes...and there have been several accidents where kids get hit on the bike," said resident Lena Schneider.

The woman who hit the boy stopped after the crash. Neighbors said she was visibly distraught.

So far, no charges have been brought against the driver.
