3-Year-Old Boy Left Alone Falls Out Of Third Story Window In Norwood

NORWOOD (CBS) – A young Norwood boy is recovering at Children's Hospital after falling from a third story window while he was left home alone.

Police and firefighters rushed to Washington and Dean Streets around 3 p.m. Tuesday after drivers sitting in traffic witnessed the three year old fall to the pavement.

"Apparently he had been in the care of his grandmother," Norwood Police Chief William Brooks said. "He had fallen asleep. The grandmother had other kids to go pick up at school. She was only going to be gone a short time. She thought he'd never wake up. She went down the street to pick up the other kids."

The boy suffered only lacerations and was conscious.

Police say unfortunately it's an accident that seems to happen every summer.

"Sometimes people don't like to put bars on the windows but if you've got little kids and you don't have air conditioning and you're going to open the windows and put in a fan, you ought to think about that," Chief Brooks said.

Police picked up the boy's mother from her work and brought her to Children's Hospital as well. The Department of Children and Families was notified and is investigating.
