Boston's Parking Space Saving Days Are Numbered
BOSTON (CBS) -- Beach chairs, orange cones, and other parking space savers must go by Thursday or they'll be removed, Boston's Mayor Marty Walsh said over the weekend. But some residents in South Boston who are finding it nearly impossible to secure parking aren't thrilled with the ultimatum.
Some space savers were seen near the trash early Monday morning, suggesting many residents are complying.
Carolyn Bartholomew, who has a pail marking her Southie parking spot, said it's only fair to get rid of her saver if the city gets rid of the snow.
"We have more mounds of snow than we actually have parking spaces, and people can't park here and it's not right," said Bartholomew.
Bartholomew, who grew up in Southie, says parking this year is the worst she's ever seen.
Normally the city allows for items to hold parking spots in Southie for up to 48 hours after a storm. Due to the back-to-back snow storms, enforcement hasn't been strict.
Mayor Walsh now says the grace period is over.
