As the familiar saying goes: Boston has more Irish people than Ireland itself, so it's no wonder people are interested in signing up for a class to learn more about their heritage. If you would like to get your Gaelic on, sign up for the Irish course offered at The Boston Language Institute for $449. The classes, which are held based on demand for up to 12 participants over 20 hours, will give you an intense look at both the written and verbal language. If you are beginner, you should leave the course with a general knowledge of the Gaelic language with conversational proficiency speaking up to 1,000 words. (Irish step dancing not included).

If you are looking to learn how to speak Mandarin, Cantonese or Japanese, head over to the Chinese Institute of Language and Arts located in Chinatown. Each 90-minute class is held once a week and extends for 10 weeks. The institute hosts the three language classes for beginners and intermediates with new sessions being held every month. Here, they use a conversational "rapid response method" of teaching to encourage verbal communication. Beginning Japanese and Cantonese classes are $240, and intensive Mandarin classes are $450.

Travelers this summer to either Spain or France can enroll in an immersion class at the Boston Center for Adult Education. For $100, the seven-session Spanish for Travelers course is being held on Monday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. beginning July 13 and continuing through August 24. The five-session French for Travelers course, which is held Monday and Saturdays from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m., also starts on July 13 and ends on July 27. Basic Italian, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese courses are also being held this summer.

Fluent City is one of the most popular places to go for a continuous course in French. in Faneuil Hall, their next session starts on July 7 and runs through September 8 on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For $399, the beginning Level 1 immersion for beginners gives you the chance to learn simple key phrases to help you navigate your way through your upcoming French vacation. From there, they offer varying courses up to a Level 6 where attendees leave able to read, write and speak the language. There are also locations in Philadelphia, Washington, DC and New York.
