This celebration offers an escape from all of the crazy tomfoolery that takes place along the shores of the Charles, and even serves as a fundraiser for one of Boston's greatest traditions: community boating. One of Boston's most patriotic sites is the U.S.S. Constitution, which is the oldest actively commissioned naval vessel in the world. While most of the year, the Constitution sits in the Charlestown Navy Yard and serves as a museum, she sets sail on the Fourth of July and you and your family are welcome to climb aboard! On the Fourth, the U.S.S. Constitution sails throughout the harbor towards Castle Island in South Boston. Once at Castle Island, the vessel will exchange a 21-gun salute with the Castle Island Naval Fort.
