Spend the last official weekend before the kids head back to school on a whale watching cruise. Families seem to love going out into the harbor and getting up close and personal looks at whales and dolphins. The September weather is absolutely perfect for this type of excursion. The cruise will cost about $50 per adult and $33 for children, and it lasts about three to four hours.

Visit The USS Constitution Museum
Charlestown Navy Yard, Building 22
Charlestown, MA 02129
(617) 426-1812
www.ussconstitutionmuseum.org
The USS Constitution Museum is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. While admission to the museum is free, there is a "suggested donation" amount of $5 - 10 per adult, and $3 - 5 per child.
Families really seem to enjoy visiting the museum and learning the history behind the USS Constitution. Keep in mind that if you want to visit the ship (which is also a really great thing to do), it's a separate thing altogether — the museum and the ship are not operated by the same organization, so be sure to make time for both if that's what you plan on doing.
